Why Keep Animal Cruelty History

hunting wild animals with dogs is banned in England and WalesHunting wild animals with dogs is banned under the Hunting Act 2004. The League Against Cruel Sports fought tirelessly for over 80 years to obtain this landmark piece of legislation to protect wild animals in England and Wales, with similar legislation already in place in Scotland.

Unfortunately, some politicians want to see the Hunting Act repealed and so it is under real and considerable threat. The process of repeal was started with the inclusion of a promise of a motion vote to repeal the Act  which was included in the Coalition agreement.

We are working hard to remind politicians that 76% of the public think fox hunting should remain illegal, while 84% think stag and hare hunting should also remain illegal.

Despite the clear threat to the Hunting Act, after our work talking to all MPs we are now aware that the majority do not want to see the Hunting Act repealed. If the vote on repeal was held tomorrow we think we would win that vote, but it would be very close and so we need your support to make sure that the Act we spent over 80 years fighting to achieve is not destroyed.

A vote on repeal could be announced at any time and take place within a week, which is why it is vital that we do all we can to keep the pressure on politicians to remind them that we must Keep Cruelty History.
